If you are into skincare then you know retinol is one of the big buzz words right now. Retinols are derivatives of vitamin A. They help to reverse sun damage and other signs of aging. Products with retinol are very popular because of these benefits but also tend to be drying on the skin. I don’t have any signs of aging yet, but I know prevention is better than cure. Plus, it’s hard for me to skip out on a skincare trend. So when I got the opportunity to receive the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal, I jumped at the chance. Trying new skincare products is always an exciting yet terrifying experience for me. I have a skincare routine that I feel really good about, but I also know there is always room for improvement.
What: Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum and the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream.
Description: Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum is a strong yet gentle serum that improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin tone. It uses “Retinol Tri-Active Technology” to be fast acting and yet gentle enough for regular use. The serum goes on clean dry skin before bed and should be followed by a moisturizer. The Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream is a moisturizer containing “Retinol Tri-Active Technology” and intensive moisturizing peptides to treat your skin while you sleep. Like most products with retinol, these are supposed to be worn at night before bed.
Cost: Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum $89 and the Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream $82
Experience: The application of the serum is very easy and quick. The serum absorbs into my skin almost immediately and does not leave behind a “sticky feeling” like some other serums. The moisturizer is a thick consistency, that does not feel greasy. It is great for cold dry weather but would be too much for my combination skin in the summer. In the morning my skin feels great with no noticeable issues. I have only used these products a few times since I got it this month so it is too soon to tell if it is effective. So far I haven’t experienced any dryness or irritation. The scent of the product is mild and unnoticeable to me, which I prefer, especially at night.
Overall: Overall I would recommend trying out these products if you don’t have very sensitive skin and can afford the price tag. Just remember, in general retinoids should be worn at night and avoided if you are pregnant/breastfeeding.
