This Catalina Island Restaurant Guide is my top picks from my two trips to the island. Catalina Island on the coast of California is one of my favorite vacation spots so I’ll be adding more to this list each trip! Although the city of Avalon is pretty small, there is plenty of places to explore. I love that I always find new adventures because there’s so much to do and see here! Whether you’re planning on doing a quick day trip or spending a few nights on the island, you got to eat! Below are the places I’ve visited on my trips to Catalina Island and recommend checking out!
Where to eat in Avalon on Catalina Island?
Bluewater Grill is a popular waterfront restaurant on the island. It is dog friendly, and has lots of outdoor seating. The restaurant does not take reservations so be ready to wait if its a busy weekend. I tried the fish sandwich for lunch and enjoyed the fries the most! Overall it’s a great option for a relax dinning experience.
The Lobster Trap is a must for their lobster rolls! A local recommend this restaurant and I’m so happy that we went! They don’t have outdoor seating so we ordered or lobster rolls warmed, to go and it was the perfect filling lunch!
Bistro at the Atwater The bistro is a popular breakfast spot, located inside the lobby of Hotel Atwater. We went here for breakfast twice and enjoyed our meals both times. The breakfast menu includes staples like coffee and pastries as well as some hearty breakfast sandwiches.
Descanso Beach Club is the perfect destination for a beach day on the island or even a beach front lunch. The spicy margarita and guacamole are my two favorite things on the menu! You can also reserve chaise lounge beach chairs or cabanas ahead of time or just show up for dining in the adjacent restaurant. Both times I opted to do the chaise beach chair option and truly enjoyed myself! I personally haven’t seen any dogs there but I asked and was told that dogs are even allowed!
Pete’s Avalon Plaza Cafe is a taco stand, known for their happy hour specials. Although I did not try their happy hour they are open late (maybe the latest restaurant open in Avalon) so they are a great option if you need an after hours bite.
Toyon Grill is another dog friendly restaurant and has the same owner as Bluewater Grill! We didn’t love our breakfast but we did truly enjoy our grab and go cocktails! I think this is a great option for a relax drink between activities or while waiting for reservations somewhere else. They do have amazing views from the top floor observatory so it’s worth checking out! Currently they are open from Wed- Sun, 8- 4pm.
